I can’t think of a more “delicious” way of grounding than by doing Vriksasana… a.k.a “tree pose”. The feeling of this pose so amazing on so many different levels, and it is so simple! This yoga pose opens your heart wide to the Universe and lets you spread your “branches” (i.e. your arms) high into the sky, feeling free and light and open…
Simultaneously, you are totally and completely grounded to the earth through the rootedness of your feet from the strength of your legs and the balance from your breath. In fact, you cannot lift anything up into the sky until after you have one super-strong, engaged leg and your balance is ON! After this, your other leg’s foot is propped up into the inner thigh of the supporting leg, you feel your hip begin to open, then the heart opens as you lift your arms high above into the sky. Through the breath, you maintain your balance and feel the crown chakra opening, your connection to source energy. The grounding effect of this pose is extremely powerful, but if you want more, do the pose outside on grass, sand, or dirt barefoot. The negative ions from the earth will ground you into deep rooted bliss.
In Chinese medicine it is taught that eating ROOT veggies (or anything that grows underground) will help ground you and make you feel more “logical” in thinking, and anything that grows above ground, will help make you feel lighter and more flowing. Try these 2 recipes and see for yourself.
1. Sample this scrumptious and nourishing root vegetable-based concoction : Ginger Parsnip Soup that’s ooooh soooo easy to make. Parsnip is a relative of the carrot, and high in vitamins, minerals, and potassium. My good friend Caroline has an amazing food blog called the Pickled Plum with TONS of other recipes to check out as well! Click HERE to get it!
2. Sipping this sweet and savory veggie juice will give you an ultra-quick energy boost, skin refresher, liver cleanser, and energetic “planter”. You can dilute with water if it is too strong for your taste. Enjoy!
