The Full Moon in Leo is a celebration moon full of positive energy! Leo is also incredibly creative. While we always encourage you to spend time consciously co-creating with the Universe, we’ll also want to practice letting go. Perhaps you might want to let go of an intention set at the New Moon that’s not the best for this time. We all can benefit from practicing non-attachment. Try to release any resistances that are blocking your Divine energy. After all, as the philosopher Lao Tzu wrote, “By letting it go it all gets done.” We find out more about what this Full Moon has in store for us, below. Keep in mind that the lunar light of Leo falls during the Mercury retrograde period, which is a wonderful time for reflection.

This Leo Full Moon rises during the Celtic festival of Imbolc, the Catholic’s Candlemas and St. Brigit’s Day, and our more secular Ground Hogs Day. It’s the time of year when the light increases, as well as a time when we begin to focus on a vision of the year ahead. Imbolc has always been a time of prophecy, for doesn’t the Ground Hog’s shadow foretell the coming Spring?
As we celebrate the growing light in the northern hemisphere, those of you in the southern hemisphere are approaching the first harvest, what we celebrate as Lammas, the beginning of the harvest season. While part of the globe is opening to the light, the other part is seeing the decline of the light and the coming darkness. We are just dancing different steps in Earth’s yearly dance.
Since I live in the North, I am experiencing the return of the light. Winter is already giving way to Spring on some days here. We celebrate the growth of the light on February 2nd. The spiritual gift of this time of year is the inner stretching of the new life and light born at Winter Solstice, and perhaps a vision of what is to unfold for you in the coming year. It’s time now to look for your vision of who you want to be and what you want to do this year. Since it is not fully formed yet, instead of just thinking about what the year holds, quiet yourself and let your imagination bring you a vision of where the year might take you. Trust it just as much as you trust your rational plans. They’re two sides of the same coin.
2015 will be another year of change. The change energies began in the first days of January with a Cancer Full Moon aligned with the Sun joining Pluto in Capricorn and squaring Uranus in Aries. The Sun symbolizes our consciousness and this configuration of planets highlights the importance of awakening to our responsibility to ourselves, our loved ones, our community. our society and the Earth. We need to personally free ourselves from our patriarchal patterning and become the conscious human beings we are meant to be so we can help shape the future of our world. It’s time to get to work.
All three of this year’s Mercury retrogrades occur in air signs, indicating our need to re-examine our thoughts, our limiting beliefs and our social interactions. Mercury retrograde is really a wonderful time to re-lax and stop your masculine left brain, rational thinking. Mercury retrograde turns our attention within anyway, so quiet your rational thoughts and let your imagination communicate with you. Your emotional intelligence, your instincts and your intuition speak to you through the feminine right brain. Listen and then compare.
The seventh and last Pluto/Uranus square on March 16th will not be the end of these revolutionary energies we’ve been under since 2012. These seven squares have made us aware of the problems we are facing. Now it is up to us to step forward and bring our gifts into society, and take a stand against patriarchy’s power plays to stay in control. We can no longer give over control of our society to the reactionaries, as we did after the 60s. It’s time for all of us to grow up and bring our high ideals down to Earth. We have to build a new society, with a strong foundation based on our belief in equality and freedom, peace and justice.
Just after that, there’s a Solar Eclipse on March 20th at 30* Pisces, the very end of the zodiac. Something is definitely coming to an end. Perhaps this eclipse is the beginning of that end.
Saturn has moved into Sagittarius, turning our attention to our beliefs and the cosmic laws of life. The constellation of Sagittarius contains the center of our Milky Way Galaxy. Perhaps with Saturn the taskmaster here, we will see an end to religious fanaticism, as more people come to realize that men kill because they enjoy the violence and want to dominate, not because God wills it. Saturn in Sagittarius is a powerful Truth-Speaker.
Jupiter in Leo will bring more of us to a state of Individuation and creative vision before it leaves Leo in mid-August. Then it goes into Virgo, where it will lend its big energy to our efforts to get things accomplished. We’ll begin to take care of details and polish up our creations.
We are here, now, to begin to create a more just, sustainable and balanced world, a world where women and men are equal but other, sharing our gifts, blending our skills. Utilizing both our rational and ‘irrational’ ways of knowing. Where we value and defend life rather than hypocritically saying we do while creating death and destruction across the world. Where our collective creative talents can heal the Earth and restore health to the human psyche rather than raping and pillaging our common home. Where we no longer separate spirit from matter, but know and understand our place in creating the world.
Leo Full Moon 2015
This Leo Full Moon occurs on February 3rd at 3:09pm PST/ 6:09pm EST/ 11:08 GMT.
This Full Moon occurs at 15* of two fixed signs, called a critical degree. 15* of the fixed signs ties into the Law of Karma—this gives the potential for evolved souls to fulfill our destiny and teach others. What a blessing for us now, since this is exactly what we are being called up to do.
The Sabian symbol for the Sun at 15* Aquarius is: Two Love Birds singing and flying joyfully around one another. This symbol speaks to the blessings we receive and the bliss we feel when we connect with our Spirit/Self. There’s a sense of free-spirited enjoyment, a faith in happy outcomes and the ability to speak from Love and the heart. When we know and live our higher Self and ideals, we live in bliss.
The Sabian symbol for the Moon at 15* Leo is: A loud and colorful circus parade snakes through city streets. What a beautiful image of fun, magic and mystery invading our cultural consciousness! It’s hard to repress the energy of life seen here as a circus parade, even in the midst of constraints and duty. This symbolizes a call to bring our creative expressions of these mysterious life energies back into the culture. We need to tell our stories to the world!
The Leo Full Moon also calls us to have FUN! So enjoy yourselves and open up to opportunities to collaborate with like-minded friends!
The Moon, Juno and Jupiter in Leo are the pivot of this full Moon chart, demanding that we open to our creative imagination to handle what life is bringing our way. Juno and Jupiter enact the Sacred Marriage of Masculine and Feminine Spirit, balancing and centering us. The Moon opens the way to the imagination and to the inner world.
Leo is the sign of Individuation, the energy connecting our ego consciousness to our inner Spirit, the Self. Leo is also the archetypal path of creativity, whether it concerns our children or our artistic creations. While Leos can certainly remain unconscious in terms of self-awareness and still be creative, the quality of creativity changes when this energy is used consciously and conscientiously. This Full Moon in Leo is certainly hardwired to bring us self-awareness if we let it.
The Sun is joined in Aquarius by Mercury retrograde and Vesta. Aquarius is the archetypal path to freedom, rebellion, genius, community and visionary goals. It teaches us the power of collaboration. Our Leo creativity is needed by the world, and it’s easier to get things accomplished if we work together. Our Minds are being transformed in Vesta’s fires. Vesta can bring us back to our virginal, original minds. In Aquarius, we get the go ahead to think outside the box. Let your genius shine out where it’s needed.
Uranus in Aries gifts this Full Moon with the joy of freedom, the passion of rebellion and the vision of genius. Look to see where these energies are playing out in your chart. It will help you hone your vision for this year.
The oceans of Pisces are overflowing with energies. Neptune, its ruling planet, is moving ahead, dissolving old pain, freeing old forms, creating new dreams. Venus joins Neptune on February 1st, bringing her love and compassion into play, since we need to ground in the knowledge that we are indeed all one.
Both Chiron the Wounded Healer and Mars the Warrior are also in Pisces. If we can heal the wounded Masculine, the masculine energy that uses domination and violence to get its way, we have a chance to change the world. For millennia, men have been trained for war and violence—it’s in their genetic and cultural makeup. Their emotional bodies are scared, and it’s hard work to heal that. Yet it is up to men to work on themselves and then work with our young men to give them different examples of what real manhood means. What does being a man mean to you?
There will be three meetings of Venus and Mars (Aries, Leo, Virgo) this year, indicating the new possibilities for relationship between masculine and feminine, man and woman. We women are being called to stand up and speak our Wisdom, and men are being called upon to live and act with integrity, honor, courage, strength and open-heartedness.
Walk in the Light!
